April 15th Minutes
Minutes for Day 6 – April 15, 2014

  • Started our meeting asking about how Stefen’s father is doing.
  • Went around to ask people to celebrate.
  • Stefen shared that he has asked Cecilia to share the functions and structure of an eye. – May 6th Doctor will visit at 8:15 (eye talk)
  • Booked project area for that.
  • The volunteer forms must be handed down to the office.
  • Track and field day ( April 23rd) – Todd has forwarded to us the logistic.
  • Jenn and Wessie will follow up with the permission form to go for that as well as make sure that the jump rope kids will be not be attending.
  • Team dinner is on for April 25th – at 7pm location 1001 nights.
  • Naz spoke to the librarian to get books to launch the science unit on structures and functions of life.
  • Stefen will bring in pots for the planting.
  • Stefen mentioned that we do need to go over the boxes of resources.
  • Steve will share the Lorax movie and ask students to do a debate. Will send us the information.
  • Encourage the kids to wear Green on Friday.
  • Friday team lunch.

April 18th MInutes

Present: Jen, Steve, Stefen, Naz, Wessie, Jeff, Diane and Sophia.

  • Sophia began went over the China Alive schedule. She has asked for each class to make sure that each class have at least 5-6 parents.
She went over the shape of the day to make sure we are clear on how it will run. Students will be painting and it was suggested if an art teacher can
accompany a Chinese teacher to go and visit the site to take new pictures and draw out a map to help our Parent volunteers to get around.
Permission forms will be handed out today and if students want to buy a professional painting cost runs about 60 Rmb.

  • Stefen brief us about the doctor visit. - 2 sessions ( 3 classes) from 12:45- 1:30
Stefen's room mom will help out with the possibility of dissecting an eyeball ( science integration) please note, it will be an animal not human eyeball :)

  • Team dinner has been changed to 1221 Chinese Restaurant. Driver is booked at 6pm and dinner reservation is at 7pm.
  • David has requested to meet with us about MAP Data Digs on April 29th.
  • Placement cards are due May 5th.

  • Diane shared how the literacy team members will work with her to look at how we can plan out the whole year and see how we can integrate our social studies and science and possibly math. It will be color coded to better see the integration.
  • Stefen went over the structure of life units and asked the group if we wanted more step by step lessons or where to go to resources or etc...
  • Steve shared about the concerns about time we have left and that we still have to cover Modern China. So if we can make sure that we are addressing the major standards.
  • Jeff will be meeting with Stefen to add in some tech integration. ( Monday April 21.)

Celebration - Steve is now an uncle to his snail’s new babies.

China Alive- some classes need more parent volunteers.

Diane

- is suggesting to link our year end narrative piece.
- Can discuss It with kids before the day and suggest for topics to think
- about.
- It was suggested about bringing back the ERB – Diane will look into that.
- Diane – went over folktale and where to find UOS in atlas.
- She will be writing up a timeline and pacing calendar for us to be given out b May 5th.

David

- Went over the MAP Dig and showed us where to get the data and was very helpful.

Minutes from May 6, 2014

EAL push in times :
  • Helen shared really quick to say that she is willing to help out any classes even though she is not scheduled to be in the class anymore.

China Alive
  • Buses will pick up at the office, fees will be paid for everyone including the parents. But if the parents want to paint they will need to pay their own fee 60 RMB.
  • Warn your class –t hat students are allowed to play on playground but stay away from the small river.
  • Other than paintings, students are NOT allowed to go and buy treats.
  • Thursday May 8, 2014- We will be showing a movie “Not one less” in the project area. 10:40-11:15 because all Chinese teachers are out this day.
PEP Update: Make sure that you have booked with David on May 16. Team goal was to update on Atlas your section of the math part.

Responsibility for everyone this year:
Discussed that for our next curriculum day: If all team members can come into the meeting with their UOS plans that they were responsible for so that we can quickly do a reflection on each unit and then upload it onto atlas.

Year End party: our 4th grade room mom knows about the party food that is needed. Everything is already taken care of.
Schedule for that day June 12th:

Morning sessions mix of movies and classroom games. 8:-11:15am
Eat at around 11:30 am
Recess 12:15-12:40
Pool – 12:45
Pool party around 1-2pm
Play outside 2-3pm

On Demand Writing: Write a personal narrative letter to the upcoming 3rd grade students. (June 4, 2014)
Spelling Inventory: June 4, 2014 - naz will prepare the inventory for all teachers.

Modern China to start on May 19th- will also have Bridge building unit integrated.

Advisory Meetings debrief:
  • Jen shared with the team that every other team brought with them a schedule change that want to be looked at. We did not, do we not want changes to be considered for next year?
  • So after discussing what could work better for us, Naz will create the change requested and forward it to the team then to forward to Michael.
  • Feedback on our team meetings.- Michael would like to know how teams meetings are going and share those with him at the next advisory meeting.

Jeff shared quickly that 4th grade collaborative calendar set-up.


Minutes – May 20, 2014



  • Planning day rescheduled going to be May 27, 2014, same day as our placement meeting – meeting place will be in the tech lab.
  • Modern China was gone over by Wessie and Steve –gave the team an outline of what to teach in line with the standards.
  • Went over report card comments as a team.
